A Week of Hell is a true story Set in the Gambia, West Africa. In this book, Papa narrates the devastating struggle for survival he and his family along with countless citizen of the Gambia went through during the attempted coup d'etat of 1981.
Papa began writing the book while on deployment in Afghanistan in 2011 although the research for the book actually began in 2008. All the people interviewed for the manuscript had direct experience during the event of 1981, including his brothers and sisters. The book is written from his prism and that of those he interviewed.
Papa believes the story of the event must be told because many Gambian lives were affected by the Coup d'etat, including the over thousand lives that perished in its wake.

In the story, a Kenyan man named Elimu came to the United States in search of the American dream to better his own life and that of his family back home. While in the United States, he faced many trials and tribulations, and eventually, hope and perseverance.
His story is that of every immigrant that comes to the United States in search of a better life.
